Turkey embraces innovative Dutch coating in combatting the spread of bacteria and viruses

Take more than 100 years of knowledge and experience, bundled with passion, conviction and persistence, and innovative coatings emerge which make a real difference in the maintenance sector, and therefore for the living environment. This is the story of Recoat, an organisation that has already achieved much by collaborating with chemists and maintenance specialists. Meanwhile, a new generation of innovative, environmentally friendly coatings have been developed which are distributed internationally by their own distribution network.

In cooperation with their partner, Dercom, Recoat developed the antimicrobial AM Protector® Technology and its associated products on which mold, bacteria and viruses cannot survive. This technology can also be added to all types of paint. The AM Protector Technology has been developed and tested for over two years. Recent test results confirm that the antimicrobial coating AM Protector is no less than 96.84% effective against the COVID-19 virus.

Especially in public spaces where many people congregate, such as railway stations, airports, hospitals, schools and offices, the risk of spreading bacteria and viruses is high. By applying AM Protector on surfaces such as tables, counters, handles, sanitary facilities and doors, but also leather, artificial leather and soft plastics, these gain long-term protection and become inhospitable to mold, bacteria and even viruses such as COVID-19.

Increasingly active throughout Europe

The innovative coating attracts a lot of international interest. In the United Kingdom and Sweden, among other countries, distributors currently work successfully with Recoat’s product range, such as AM Protector.

In Q4, 2020, AM Protector was launched in Turkey by PROSYS Protective Coatings, the Turkish distributor of Recoat. Mr. Hakki Turer, director of PROSYS Protective Coatings says: ‘We started using AM Protector at the Kader Aktu Art Gallery in Bodrum as well as at Symbol Kocaeli, a large shopping mall located in the province of Kocaeli in Turkey. AM Protector offers long term protection to both  visitors and staff and that feels reassuring. Besides that, the coating is user-friendly for the cleaning staff and it is no longer needed to repeatedly disinfect every surface. As a result, cleaners can be deployed more efficiently’.

Rostilav Demianenko, partner of Recoat and responsible for several markets, including the Turkish market, says: ‘The coating is incredibly effective. It is water-based, easy to apply, has a long-lasting effect and its condition can be tested via UV light. As a result, we offer the user the assurance of thorough and optimal protection of surfaces’.

There is also a lot of interest in both the technology and the products in other European countries, as well as in the United States. Gérard de Bresser, director van Recoat, says: ‘We are very pleased with our partners’ trust. They  endorse our market vision and share our view on the importance of using environmentally friendly products. The pandemic affects all of us, and when we are able to contribute to reducing the spread of the virus via our network, it proves the added value of our shared efforts’.
